Graduate Profile of History <\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>

At the completion of the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in History Degree programme in the Faculty of Arts of the University of Jaffna, the graduate should be able to have a clear knowledge in the chosen subject\/ areas of discipline with the ability for creative, critical and analytical and problem- solving proficiencies and skills, for continuing professional \/ carrier advancement and be able to examine and understand the full breadth of issues concerning social, cultural, environmental regulatory and ethical aspects associated in the area of their study. They will have the ability to apply theoretical and concepts to historical problems. They will be competent with skills to preserve our past history.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/strong>Specific attributes<\/strong><\/span><\/p>

A Bachelor of Arts of the University of Jaffna shall exhibit the attributes with respect to academic excellence, employability, social engagement and global citizenship, and lifelong learning.<\/span><\/p>

Academic Excellence<\/strong><\/span><\/p>

  • Explain the significance of distinctive forms of political, social, economic and cultural organization.<\/span><\/li>
  • Demonstrate intellectual autonomy through independence of thought, openness to ideas and information.<\/span><\/li>
  • Identify and recognize major discoveries of materials relating to history and assess their impact on historical writings.<\/span><\/li>
  • Assess the significance of major landmarks in world history.<\/span><\/li>
  • Demonstrate the achievements in art and architecture, literature and assess their impact on social changes.<\/span><\/li>
  • Elucidate ideals, practices, and historical developments of major belief systems.<\/span><\/li>
  • Identify challenges that humans have faced in the ecological, economic, political, and other spheres of life, and explain how they have responded to those challenges.<\/span><\/li>
  • Analyze the ways in which human groups have come into contact and interacted with each other, including systems of communication, migration, commercial exchange, conquest, and cultural diffusions.<\/span><\/li>
  • Apply their skills in diverse areas and time periods of study.<\/span><\/li>
  • Independently formulate and articulate the opinions on topics like historical, political, economic, and social science.<\/span><\/li>
  • Able to apply numerical and analytical skills to gather and analyze data and information scientifically, draw inferences and arrive at the conclusion.<\/span><\/li>

    • Identify resources, assets, and amenities that belong to diverse societies and their culture.<\/span><\/li>
    • Sustain the students to meet the challenges in the field of history for the preservation and Conservation of historical and archaeological artifacts while motivate and educate the younger Generation of the importance of our historical monuments in history.<\/span><\/li>
    • Develop an academic institution as a knowledge hub in the field of history with an international and regional perspective and co-operation.<\/span><\/li>
    • Estimate, analyze, discuss, critically and conclude on the application of historical methods and techniques in different levels through conducting empirical studies and researches with the support of an academic institution.<\/span><\/li>
    • Able to apply general and transferable skills; ICT skills and the ability to use new technological and ICT tools, Communication skills with trilingual proficiency (English, Tamil, and Sinhala), Soft skills – interpersonal skills, teamwork, time management skills, social responsibility, and ethical practice and ability to meet the stakeholders\u2018 expectations.<\/span><\/li>
    • Organizational discipline and skills are necessary for effective work habits, whether working individually or in groups in fieldwork, particularly in the professional field.<\/span><\/li>
    • The research and analytical background to receive and interpret information, express ideas and share knowledge with diverse parties in a range of different formats.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>
