History Seminar on 29th of September 2021

We, the Lecturers, Undergraduates and Graduates of the Department of History organized a seminar for the benefit of the students who sit for the  G.C.E A/L (History as a subject) every year. We decided to conduct a seminar on 29th of September 2021 (Wednesday) from 8.00 am to 5.15 pm via zoom.

A Focus Group Discussion was held in our Department on 18th November 2021 around 10:30 am with more than ten school history teachers on the challenges of teaching the syllabus and the ideas for engaging lessons were discussed by Historical Dialogue. lk a part of GIZ, a long partnership with the History and Community project and the Department of History at the University of Jaffna

The Department of History Organized a Knowledge sharing virtual season with  Mrs.A.Ezhillarasi to provide an insight to students  about  following the degree programme and the demand of the study in the existing job market .

Webinar I

Department of History was planning to conduct a Webinar on “தமிழர் அடையாளங்களில் நடுகற்களின் வகிபாகம்”. This Webinar was conducted on 17.10.2021. Professor Dr. N.Luxmanamoorthy, the eminent scholar in History from India was invited as guest speaker.

Webinar II

A Webinar on “Contribution of women in the freedom struggle from Tamil Nadu” was conducted by the Department of History. This Webinar was conducted on 08.11.2021. Professor Dr.Tmt.M.Thilagavathi, (Former Head of the Department, Ethiraj College, Chennai) the eminent scholar in History from India was invited as a guest speaker. 

Webinar III

A Webinar on “Archeological studies at Kantharodai-Multi-Lateral views” was conducted by the Department of History on 14.11.2021. Dr. Siva Thiagarajah, the eminent scholar in History from the UK & Rtd.Prof.P.Pushparatnam  were invited as guest speakers.

Webinar IV

Our Department organized a Webinar on 05.12.2021 at 4.00 pm entitled “British Colonialism and Migration of Tamils from India” We invited Dr.J. Shunmugarajah Head, Department of Modern History, Madurai Kamaraj University, India a prominent scholar in Modern History to deliver a guest lecture on this academic platform. 

Webinar V

Our department organized a webinar on 28.12.2012 at 4.00 p.m entitled “Socio – Economic Calamity During the Pandemic in the Worldwide Scenario”. we invited Dr. Florasmary of Jayaraj Annai Pakkiyam College for women India as the guest speaker.

Webinar VI

The first webinar was conducted by our department for the year 2022. Title of the series was “Gandhi and  Ahimsa”. We were invited Dr.M.Anusha Angel from Jeyaraj Annapackiam College for Women (Autonomous), Tamil Nadu, India.

Honorable Minister Vidura Wikramasinka & Archaeological Director General

Hon. State Minister of national heritage, performing arts, and rural art promotion, Mr.Vidura Wickramanayaka, the secretary of the ministry,  MS.Nishanthi Jayasinghe, and Prof.Anura Manatunga, Archeology Director General are planning to visit our University during our Jaffna tour on 6th November 2021. The Hon Minister wishes to meet the staff and students doing Archeology to extend his support to develop the subject at our University.

Guest Lecture

Our Department conducted a Guest Lecture on 22nd August 2022 on “யாழ்ப்பாண இராசதானியின் தோற்றம் தொடர்பான கருத்துக்களை மீளாய்வு செய்யும் புதிய கல்வெட்டு”. Professeor P.Pushparatnam was invited as Speaker for this.
