Mrs.Dinosha Sujindar participated in Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition of the 15th International Conference on Business and Information (ICBI) 2024, organized by Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka and she is the title winner of this competition this competition held on 1st of November 2024. She was awarded with Shield and Rs.75, 000.00 cash prize.

Webinar was organized by Jayaraj Annapackiam College for Women (Autonomous), PG and research center of History collaboration with Department of History, University of Jaffna.Mrs.S.Arulanantham,(Head,Department of History) was one of the resource person and delivered a talk on “The contribution of Sri Lankan Tamil scholars to the cultural development of Tamil Nadu: based on the late 19th century”.This event is scheduled for the 7th of October, 2024.

 

Workshop

Mrs.Dinosha Sujindar participated in the workshop in 2024.The BALPP organised a thought-provoking workshop on July 27, 2024, to honour the memory of distinguished Palestinian-American scholar Edward Said. Dr. ShamaraWettimuny(Cambridge University, Uk) andProf. Nira Wickramasinghe(leiden university,Netherlands) two eminent historians, led the session, which focused on Said’s critical contributions to postcolonial theory, literature, and historical narratives. It also highlighted the ideas’ lasting influence on modern cultural and historical critique. A wide range of people, including enthusiasts, academics, and students, attended the workshop.

Language Technology Summer School 2025

Event Summary:

Mrs. S. Arulanantham (Head, Department of History), Mrs. P. Sanchika, and Mrs. S. Dinosha participated in the Language Technology Summer School 2025, held on 29–30 June 2025 at the Faculty of Arts, University of Jaffna. This workshop focused on empowering the humanities and social sciences through the use of language technology. Topics included creating local language content, linguistic tools, AI language understanding, NLP tools, large language models (LLMs), and generative AI for academic work. The event was supported by DigSAL and DAAD, and targeted participants interested in applying language technology in academic or professional contexts.

English Language Enhancement Training program - 2025

Event Summary:

Mrs.Dinosha Sujindar successfully completed a 24-hour English Language Enhancement Training program conducted at the University of Jaffna, From April to July 2025. This program was facilitated by Jennifer Goodman, an English Language Fellow from the U.S. Embassy in Colombo, under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State’s English Language Programs. The training aimed to enhance participants’ proficiency in English and support academic and professional development. The certificate of completion acknowledges the participant’s active engagement and commitment throughout the training period.

Participation as Resource Person – Gender and History Workshop, ICES Colombo.

Mrs. D. Sujindar participated as a Resource Person on Day 02 of the Gender and History Workshop, held on 9 August at the International Centre for Ethnic Studies (ICES), Colombo 8. Her session focused on Gender Construction in the Colonial Period in Sri Lanka, with particular emphasis on the Northern Tamil woman.

Resource Person at the Cultural Officers’ Program

Mrs. D. Thulasika served as a Resource Person at the Cultural Officers’ Program held in Galle and Colombo from 06.07.2025 to 09.07.2025, organized by the Management Development Training Unit, Northern Province.

Participation in LEARN FOSS Workshop on Digitalizing Research and Education Content

D. Sujindar, Lecturer (Probationary) in the Department of History, University of Jaffna, participated in the Workshop on “Digitalizing Research & Education Content on LEARN FOSS Free Open Cloud Platform,” organized by the Lanka Education and Research Network (LEARN), held from 8th to 12th September 2025 at the Information Technology Center, University of Peradeniya. She was nominated to attend this highly competitive program, which received over 100 nominations, and was selected for the first round of the workshop.

National Meeting on Strengthening History Education in Sri Lanka

Mrs. A. Arulanantham and Mrs. P. Sanchika participated in an official meeting organized by the Department of History in Sri Lankan Universities, held on 20 September 2025 at Isurupaya, Battaramulla, Colombo, under the patronage of the Prime Minister. The meeting focused on key issues related to the History curriculum in schools and explored potential reforms for future implementation. Representatives from History departments across Sri Lankan universities contributed to a productive exchange of ideas. Representing the Department of History, University of Jaffna, Mrs. Arulanantham and Mrs. Sanchika engaged in discussions aimed at strengthening the role and quality of History education in the country.

CGEE Capacity-Building Workshop on Gender-Sensitive Teaching

Mrs. S. Dinosha successfully participated in the Training of Trainers (TOT) Programme on Learning Gender, conducted by the Centre for Gender Equity and Equality (CGEE) at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna, on 12 November 2025. The programme aimed to strengthen participants’ understanding of gender-sensitive teaching practices and enhance facilitation skills required for implementing the Learning Gender module. The training offered valuable insights into promoting equity and inclusive approaches within academic and professional environments.

Academic Contribution to the Undergraduate Research Symposium 2025

Mrs. S. Dinosha and Mrs. D. Thulashika participated in the Undergraduate Research Symposium 2025 as Session Coordinators and active members of the URSA Committee. Their contributions were instrumental in ensuring the smooth functioning of the sessions and supporting the overall success of the event. The symposium served as a vibrant platform for presenting innovative ideas and inspiring research by undergraduate students, fostering academic dialogue, collaboration, and a strong culture of research excellence within the university community.
